Storytime: Dreams (Illustrated!)

Storytime: Dreams (Illustrated!)

Hey everyone! As I mentioned last post, I’ll be doing a series (with three parts) about my current WIPs. Last week I talked about my debut novel (which I really should work on), and today I’ll be talking about another novel I got inspiration for from a dream. Working title: Dreams.

First, we should talk about the dream that started it all! There’s a lot of weird stuff (Hitler showing up in ancient, Arabian Nights Arabia), but I can tell you the basic gist. Me, my family, and some friends were stranded in some Arabian Nights-esque world, and night was coming. We found this shack/restaurant thing and hid inside before it got completely dark. But we were looking out the window and we saw this ghost woman. She was an old Arabian queen, and she had a super pretty dress and train and was carrying a candle with a blue flame. We tried to talk to her, but she sent a phoenix to attack us. We hid, and it left us alone.

We were exploring the desert and found this crumbled old palace. Inside there was this ghost horse who everyone was trying to talk to, but it always ran away. I slowly approached it and made friends with it, and it let me ride it. And slowly, slowly, we restored the palace.

And then Hitler came. But that’s something else.

In this story, all the baby girls (except the daughters of nobility) are thrown out of the cities when they’re born. But the women formed camps where they could find refuge. Whenever a new King is crowned, these camps are searched for and some of the women captured in order to keep the cities alive. The protagonists, Sahar and Nakia, are separated on one such hunt when Sahar is captured but Nakia manages to escape.

Nakia and her friend Karyme decide to rescue Sahar, but they’re too late. Sahar is locked in the castle, forced into an arranged marriage with the Prince. But a terrorist organization known as the Mandui attack the palace and capture Nakia and Karyme. They force Nakia to write a ransom letter, asking for money but also their pick of a mysterious book from the library.

Sahar, pictured above, is the protective older sister. She is separated from Nakia and taken to the palace, where she ends up marrying the Prince. She gets a ransom letter from the Mandui, demanding thousands of rare salt coins and their choice of a book from her library.

Nakia is Sahar’s younger sister. After they were separated, she made friends with a young woman named Karyme and they snuck into the city to rescue Sahar, only to find that she had been locked away and married the Prince. They were captured in a raid by the Mandui, who found out that Nakia was the Queen’s sister. They forced her to write a ransom letter, but when all is said and done, they take both Nakia and the ransom on their quest.

So yeah, there you have it! I hope you guys enjoyed this post. Please check back (still can’t find that subscribe button!) on Monday for another post about my other story. God bless, and stay safe!
